Michel Onfray

Doctor of Philosophy, Michel Onfray has taught in the final year of a technical high school in Caen between 1983 and 2002 before creating a Popular University in Caen in October 2002 and a People’s University of taste in Argentan in 2006.

He has published some fifty books in which he proposed a theory of hedonism. His work led him to celebrate the sense criticized, such as olfaction and taste. However, he does not neglect the visual senses and offers a contemporary aesthetic. His works examine the works painted by artists, or on contemporary art, photography or sculpture. He published more than twenty times in paperback, translated into more than twenty languages.

The creation of the Popular University of Caen in 2002 was the opportunity to publish the philosophical community (2004), a manifesto explaining the reasons for this project. The courses volunteer in this space where a dozen teachers work were published under the title Against the history of philosophy, Volume 1: The ancient wisdom; Volume 2: The hedonistic Christianity (2006) Volume 3: Baroque libertines , Volume 4: the Ultras of Enlightenment Volume 5: Social and eudemonism Volume 6: the existential radicalism (2008). Some other four volumes are planned.
