Le Choeur du Plateau
Roseline Blain founded Le Chœur du Plateau in 2011 as a product of her master’s recital in choral conducting. She is still the artistic director of the 30-voice ensemble, whose repertoire ranges from Renaissance to contemporary music. Over the years, Le Chœur du Plateau has made a name for itself in the Montreal choral scene. In 2015, it won second prize in its category of Choral Canada’s National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs.
Le Chœur du Plateau is committed to encouraging young local talent and part of its mission is to collaborate regularly with a composer in residence. So far, the choir has performed My Son by Marybelle Frappier for its concert titled “Lux Aeterna” in May 2013 and Samare by David Désilets for its end-of- season concert called “Salut! Printemps” in spring 2014. Its most recent collaboration was with Dominique Lafortune for its spring concert in May 2016.
Le Chœur du Plateau is often asked to participate in joint events with other choirs and musicians. In December 2013, it sang Lauda per la Natività del Signoraux with Anima Musica, directed by Geneviève Boulanger. In November 2014, Le Chœur du Plateau joined the Société de concerts de la métropole in singing Bruckner’s Requiem and Mozart’s Missa brevis in D minor, K.65. At the Montreal Conservatory, on February 7, 2015, the choir presented a concert called “Impressions de nuit/Nachtstücke,” during which it sang an incredible interpretation of Nocturnes by Morten Lauridsen. The last concert of the 2014-2015 season, “Le Motet,” presented at Chapelle Notre-Dame- de-Bonsecours, was a huge success.
During the 2015-2016 choral season, Le Chœur du Plateau put on a remarkable joint concert with Ensemble Phoebus and the Saint-Anne Singers on October 24, 2015. The choirs were all prize winners of the National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs, and the concert was produced in partnership with Alliance des chorales du Québec. In addition, Le Chœur du Plateau participated in the Night of Choirs during the Bach Festival on November 28, 2015. Its winter concert, “O magnum mysterium,” took place at the end of January 2016 at Chapelle Notre-Dame- de-Bon-Secours. The choir also performed into the wee hours of the night of the Nuit blanche during the Montréal en Lumière Festival on February 27, 2016, at the Church of St-Andrew and St-Paul.
